Standard PC components are housed in a novel high
density packaging which permits up to 20 PC's to occupy less than one square
meter of floor space, including networking and power handling. Uses
include computing farms, servers, beowulf systems, super computers and other
cluster computing applications.
Each PC system is individually housed
in a vertically oriented 88mm wide 'sub' chassis and can utilize most ATX
format computing hardware. It comes complete with our PCI riser cards,
to enable two PCI slots to be used by full size cards. The systems are
packaged in groups of 5 'sub' chassis, plus CD-ROM, power
distribution and power sequencing if necessary, in a eurorack format stackable
enclosure. The enclosure is approx. 475mm high with a footprint of approx. 700mm
wide x 725mm deep. This arrangement allows 20 computer systems and
network hubs to be housed in a stack 2.2m high. A single rack of five
sub chassis will fit comfortably beneath a desk for office applications.
The 5 PC 'sub' chassis are housed
in a 'sub case' to provide RFI/EMC protection. This unit provides
system RFI shielding and location for the 5 PC sub chassis. The RFI case
is fitted into the outer enclosure leaving space in the lower section of the
enclosure for customer special requirements to be included such as the CD-ROM
drives, Sequence Power Up, Keyboard/Video switching and emulation etc..
The outer case is provided with
'knock out' locations in the top and bottom to allow joining pieces to be
fitted when the units are stacked. The joining pieces also provide
'through routes' for internal cabling.
All system connections are front
accessible allowing the systems to be positioned against a wall, thus minimizing
floor space requirements and the need for VGA, Keyboard and Mouse multiplexing
units. Each chassis node can be readily removed for ease of maintenance without
affecting the remaining operational units. The computer housings are
designed to use standard PC or Alpha ATX format auxiliary components, including standard
PSU. This simplifies system service support and maintenance and allows
future hardware upgrade to be easily carried out if required.
Systems are supplied ready tested in
easy to assemble parts, enabling large clusters to be quickly installed and
commissioned on site.
